Human Language
Premiered within the inaugural Black Grace & Friends season in August 2002, Human Language saw the first-ever appearance by female dancers with Black Grace. Witty, surreal and magical, Human Language is a dynamic exploration of interpersonal communication; especially our tendency to complicate that very thing that we developed to capture, codify and convey our thoughts and feelings: language.
Human Language features a vibrant soundtrack by Jazz musician, Chico Hamilton and a live rendition of 'Drive' written by Bic Runga and performed by the dancers.
Feminine beauty, masculine strength and the gift of physical language are all inextricably woven into this critically acclaimed work.
“Human Language is as sharp as citrus, sweet as mango, pretty as pawpaw and an ideal entrée.”New Zealand Herald 2003
